Job Description
 
Provide leadership, control and decision making and takes responsibility for the design and build of data communication networks, including local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), and intranets. These networks range from a small connection between two offices to a multinational series of globally distributed communications systems. Network architects must have extensive knowledge of an organization’s business plan to design a network that can help the organization achieve its goals.
 
Responsibilities
  • Gather and analyze business requirements, and design a network architecture solution and framework
  • Install physical hardware (switches, routers, etc.) and configure devices and drivers as needed
  • Research and/or be knowledgeable to new technology which would best support the organization, and promote innovation
  • Collaborate with other IT workstreams and SME’s for to produce roadmaps for large-scale, integrated project, and identify cross-functional dependencies and issues and risks (e.g. Active Directory, SSO, VPN Tunnels)
  • Work with the network operations and project delivery teams to promote network standards and compliance.
  • Ensure all security compliance and end-point requirements (both domestic and international) are accounted for in all designs and implementation within the organization’s network
  • Confirm all disaster recovery and business continuity strategies are addressed is design and implementation
  • Communicate and present to management and executives regarding solutions, risks, and other networking topics
  • Ability to think outside-the-box on technically solutions when integrating and connection different offices and sites
  • Produce technically excellent solutions architecture that is aligned to business needs and direction.
  • Review designs for standards compliance, architecture compliance and negotiate implementation timeframes.
  • Collaborate with business users, technical staff and management to define business and technical requirements.
  • Research, evaluate and approve vendor services and solutions.
 
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 7 years of hands-on technical network architecture and implementation experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, or a related field
  • Advanced knowledge of protocols including BGP, IS-IS, OSPF, and EIGRP
  • Advanced knowledge of tunneling protocols including IPSEC, GRE, L2TPv3
  • Knowledge of high availability protocols such as VRRP, HSRP, LACP, PAGP
  • Advanced knowledge of network virtualization technologies including MPLS and VRF
  • Experience with VOIP components and converged networks
  • Demonstrated knowledge of network technologies through achievement of Cisco CCDE, CCIE and other professional certifications
