Lead SCADA Systems Engineer
 
Scope of Position:
Technical team lead for the SCADA integration and implementation work for new Projects and Operations & Maintenance (O&M) contracts. Provide engineering support in the design, construction, and ongoing maintenance of SCADA systems for utility and commercial renewable power plants. Perform and assign tasks and activities for development, design, implementation, testing, and operation of project specific SCADA deliverables. Provide SCADA engineering and support for the O&M and Operations Control Center (OCC) Teams in maintaining the SCADA systems for owned and third-party customer renewable energy projects.  Responsible for performing a variety of complex technical duties in the administration and maintenance of SCADA systems and their supporting networks. Will demonstrate increasingly responsible professional experience in all the software and hardware aspects of utility SCADA applications, integration, security, and control, including application development, cyber security, and networking practices/concepts.

Location:                                           San Diego, CA
 
Working Conditions:
75% of time is spent in the office environment, utilizing computers, phones, and general office equipment.  Up to 25% of time is spent outside of the office (customer sites, trainings, & conferences)
 
Responsibilities:
  • Provide Technical guidance and mentoring to the other SCADA Integration Group team Members
  • Generate and Communicate Project Scope of Work
  • Communicate with Program Management and provide periodic updates on the status of the existing projects
  • Integrate existing OEM SCADA systems data feeds into central SCADA systems
  • Maintain, Test and Execute the Quality Assurance procedures on new projects
  • Develop and Maintain technical requirements and ensure they get communicated to energy generation systems manufacturers
  • Coordinate with suppliers on technical and procurement issues and with construction management on project installations
  • Other duties as assigned
 
Qualifications:
  • MS/BS in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or Computer Science combined with work experience within the renewable energy industry
  • 5+ years’ experience with one or many SCADA systems used in the renewable energy industry (GE Wind SCADA, Visupro, VestasOnline Business, REguard, etc.)
  • Strong knowledge of Industrial communication protocols (OPC, Modbus, IEC 61850/60870, DNP3, etc.)
  • Experience with OSIsoft PI and a 5+ years’ experience with wind and solar power plant control/communication systems (PLC, RTU, PC, CDS)
  • Prior work in telecommunications and energy industry involving system installations and designs
  • Knowledge in Cybersecurity and computing system protection; NERC, NIST, and other Cybersecurity standards and regulations; instrumentation and controls engineering, and networking systems.
  • A quick learner with an ability to synthesize information from different sources
  • Proficiency in Microsoft software
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal, especially with respect to explaining technical matters in non-technical language.
  • Computer skills including AutoCAD, Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint.
  • Willingness to travel within the identified region.  Travel is anticipated to be up to approximately 25% of the work schedule.
  • Skilled at developing and executing test plans, scripts and procedures
  • Experience in software program design and development
  • Ability to effectively multi-task/prioritize/react in dynamic demanding environments requiring clear thinking processes and prompt results
  • Availability to take part in a technical support rotation and provide support services outside of normal business hours
